History
The Ghana-Canada Association of British Columbia (GCABC) was formed in 1986 with a mission to serve as a support group for the social, cultural, and economic development of Ghanaians, Ghanaian-Canadians, and other residents in BC who identify with Ghana. In fostering this mission, the GCABC promotes friendship, awareness, participation, understanding, and cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between Ghana and British Columbia in the areas of art and culture, education, history, trade, commerce and tourism.
Building, sustaining, and promoting a vibrant, cohesive, and inclusive community, while forging intercultural understanding and solidarity between the GCABC and other communities through arts and culture.
To teach, learn, and showcase the history, cultural heritage, and current affairs of Ghana and British Columbia to all residents of the Province of BC.
a) promote and protect the interests of Ghanaian-Canadians in British Columbia;
b) educate ourselves, the youth and the Canadian public about the history, heritage and current affairs of both Ghana-Canada;
c) provide a forum for activities and events, such as dance, music, food, storytelling festivals, cultural expos etc., that will promote cultural awareness as well as culture exchange between peoples of African descent and all Canadians;
d) Undertake and/or sponsor programmes and activities that allow British Columbians to learn about Ghana and its rich culture and traditions.
